Epictetus | Greek | Athens | Pamukkale Clue |
Various things exist, either falling inside one's range of capability or beyond it. Such things include ideas, impulses, aspirations, and evasion. In a word, that equals everything we do. Our bodies, our properties, our fame, our authority, and everything that is not done by ourselves, are out of our control. As for those we could control, they are essentially free, free from all the obstacles and embarrassment, but they are also weak,
enslaved, governed and contrastive.
Look at the wretched, they spend everything they own to reach Golden Horn, bath in the spring to treat their sickness, and even bury themselves outside the shrine. We can't force our beliefs on others.
