Some years ago, it is said, a ragged sailor appeared on the port at Santo Domingo. He claimed to be a crew member of the privateer "Storm", which had just been built and launched for a trial trip a few days before his appearance. The sailor was well acquainted with the ship's construction and pointed out structural flaws that even the craftsmen were unaware of. When the Governor sent ships to Bermuda in the North Atlantic to build supply depots, the sailors became very emotional and kept stopping them, claiming that the ship would run aground. But the ships still set off and indeed did not make it back.
