After spending nearly two days in bed, I finally gathered the strength to sit up. The elder taking care of me all this time is sitting in the corner with his eyes closed, seemingly lost in thought.
Back when I first got here, I actually pictured him as a cruel maniac according to all the legends I heard. But still, I wondered what crime sent such a kind-looking elder here in the
Land of Surveillance.
"My crimes, are the worst...", the elder spoke all of sudden.
I was startled, trying to make sure I didn't speak my mind out loud.
"Is this not what you wish to ask?"
Seeing me keeping my mouth shut, the elder asked.
I finally answered, "Yes, I'm just curious about why you are here..."
"You know..." I paused before deciding to continue, "You are not a thief like me. You don't seem strong enough to wield a sword."
"Ha-ha-ha!" Laughing, the elder passed me a piece of wheat bread. Only then did I realize the hunger in me.
I took the bread and swallowed it quickly.
"My ancestor was a scholar in the Promised Land, who fled southwards with books full of wisdom before the catastrophe, and the ancient books contained blueprints of war machines and recipes of lethal potions."
"So with those methods, you... killed many?"
"Those are the treasures of Abbasid Caliphate, memories made by everyone in the world."
"So you are saying?"
