...The country of Suruga boasts a vast land, within which area is the remote mountain known as Mount Fuji. People of the mountains worship the mountain gods. From above the five lakes they reach the residence of the great gods and live rich lives there planting berries and hemps. The land, however, is on the edge of this region that is suitable for human habitation. It is covered in snow and frost in winter and summer, and is cold at all
times. The legend says it's because the god of fire lives here while people say the extreme weather is due to the great mountain gods.
